Don’t Let Offense Steal Who You Are
It’s so easy to take offense in this day and age.
Someone didn’t smile at you like they normally do.
They didn’t greet you.
They forgot to check up on you.
They didn’t show up.
They said this…
They did that…
I heard this….
Before long, our minds begin filling in the blanks, creating conversations that may never have happened. We replay moments over and over, analysing every word, every look, every silence.
But here’s the question…
Is it really worth it? What happens to the one who has been offended?
The person who offended you may have already moved on, while you’re carrying the weight of it everywhere you go.
Offense is exhausting.
It steals your joy.
It drains your peace.
It robs your focus.
It affects your relationships.
It clouds your judgment.
It breeds bitterness, resentment, and suspicion.
Slowly, without even realising it, it starts taking little pieces of who you are.
One offense grows ….And before long, you’re no longer seeing people through the eyes of grace but through the lens of hurt.
Choosing not to be offended isn’t pretending that people don’t hurt us. It doesn’t mean what they did was right.
It means refusing to give another person’s actions permission to control your heart.
It means guarding your heart.
Choosing to stay focussed.
Preserving your character.
Keeping your mind free of chains of offense.
When we choose to let go, we make room for healing instead of hurt, peace instead of turmoil, and freedom instead of emotional chains.
Choosing not to take offense is taking back your power. It is saying:
“I will not allow another person’s actions, words, or opinions to tamper with who God created me to be.”
Not everything deserves a reaction.
Some things deserve grace.
Some things deserve a conversation.
And some things simply deserve to be released.
And some things don’t even need our attention.
Protect your peace.
Guard your heart.
Forgive quickly.
Love deeply.
And don’t let offense write a story that was never meant to be yours.
