Let me tell you … Breaking down in parts for easier read.
Ever since I got back from my incredible holiday I have been sick. Perhaps I’m allergic to the UK and need some African Sun.
Anyway, on a serious note, each passing day left me feeling worse than before. It all started Sunday morning, 5am I woke up instantly in tears… I had severe cramps in both my calves. I held onto my calves squeezing them as tightly as I could trying to alleviate the pain. It eventually subsided but I couldn’t stretch my legs. I found it painful to walk. My husband massaged my calves before church. Climbing the stairs was extremely painful. Twice a day my hubby massaged my legs. And eventually the pain left. But the cold and flu symptoms only increased.
I’m not one to complain so I pushed on as I could until Thursday night. My chest hurt so much when laying down. I had a heavy, persistent productive cough, tight chest, and every breath felt painful. I eventually had to get out of bed to start the day… My voice was gone. So here I am whispering to my children trying to wake them up …. They knew they were lucky because I couldn’t raise my voice at all… And the way Ariah kept asking me to repeat things lol
I messaged my husband saying, I think I need an antibiotic. Probably amoxicillin or something stronger. I’m not alright. Anyway I went to work but I knew I had to book an appointment with my doctors. After completing my online questionnaire, it did say I need urgent attention and I should wait to hear back from the doctors by Monday 630pm (bear in mind this was yesterday, Friday).
I had to keep my phone on me just in case they called me. It wasn’t an easy morning. I turned the ringer volume up on my phone but I did not realise that even though it was on loud, I had it on do not disturb… And I saw 4 missed calls from my doctor’s with a message saying they tried to call me and so now I have to do another online appointment.
Mad at myself… I filled out another application for an appointment. Stating my symptoms once again, the medications I have tried to take and what help I would like from them .
30mins later I got a call. “Can you come in within 20mins?” I’m like ok. I quickly spoke to my deputy and rushed off. I made it in time.
I sat down and the physician asked me, “How can I help?” …in my head I am screaming: did you not read what I wrote! I tell him I am not well and I explain everything to him. I told him it feels like I got mucus that needs to come out. I need an antibiotic to help me recover.
He gets a little history from me and because I mentioned my symptoms and the fact that I had been on a long flight from South Africa… All alarms were raised…. He said, I’m not saying it is, but I cannot rule this out. It could be pulmonary embolism and you need to go to A&E now.
