Jury Duty Day 1

Sunday was done and dusted… I did everything I could to make Monday morning a breeze. I won’t lie, I did not sleep well!

I was nervous, not knowing what to expect. I got up early, cooked dinner got the children ready and took them to school. I realised I needed to catch an earlier train if I wanted to make it with a little time to spare, so I ran and ran, my running turned to a jog, down to a brisk walk, eventually I could only walk. My chest was hurting and I realised how unfit I am. Despite doing thousands of steps a day lol that’s not fitness.

Anyway, I arrived on time and walked in. Only of us. Ok cool. Well we signed in and everyone started arriving. We must have been between 50 to 60 + waiting to be called in. I came prepared, had a book, had something to watch and I had a portable charger muhahahahhaha.

All prepared. Well not really.. they had coffee making facilities but they had no cups! But low and behold I saw everyone else had their own travel mugs with them. Was there a memo sent out that I did not get? Or is this an unspoken rule in the UK, take your travel mug wherever you go? So I sat, with my bottle of water! I also never brought food because I thought  we couldn’t take food in…. My bad… So you can bring your food you just cannot take it into the actual court room!!! Well duh!

Finally a lady came and said, use this time to just sit and wait and make friends! I’m a friendly person, and I love talking but BUT BUT I just wanted to sit alone. Just let me be. Others chatted away (must be friends from before) others began to work on lap tops, others stayed refilling their coffee mugs. And me? Well I began to read my book.

It was interesting but I couldn’t concentrate. My brain was too tired to follow the story. So I decided to watch something. I watched Call the midwife. And the two episodes I watched had me in tears. Nope, not me sitting in the waiting area trying hard not to cry and let my tears fall.

Ok change of plans. Let’s watch something else. High Potential. Someone at told me about it and I thought oh let me give it a try! Nothing heavy, but fun to watch and so this carried me through. It was almost 12 and no one had been called or chosen… The lady came and said,  our lunch today  will be from 1230 to 2. I could have gone shopping but imagine me walking back into the courts with my shopping bags.

Ok so I won’t go shopping, change of plans, let’s stay in and continue to watch my programmes  and eat the tiny snacks eat I randomly had in my bag. So I ate that, ohhhhh I found a bag of skittles, I ate that too. Ohhhhh I found hidden deep at the bottom a dark chocolate KitKat. Well I’m nice and full on a sugar high. No worries. Let’s continue to watching.

Nothing happened. One set of jurors were chosen… I wasn’t called. However we were all told  to come back the next day. This time , not so early.

Day 1 of jury duty… I caught up on my TV programmes.
