What a Day… 💛☀️
It’s been a long one. I’m only just sitting down to eat dinner — much later than usual — and I find myself reflecting on the day we’ve just had.
Today was our school summer fete. After a full-on busy day with the children, we launched into an even busier afternoon filled with colour, laughter, and community. I watched as school staff moved between stations — face painting, hook-a-duck, glitter tattoos, jumping castles, ice cream stalls, BBQs, football and so much more. Everyone served with smiles on their faces and joy in their voices, even though the sun was blazing and the day felt endless.
I thought of my husband who had been up since 4am for work, yet still made the effort to come home early, pick up the children and bring them to the fete and take them to the park after!!!! I thought of the many parents who had worked all day — whether in their jobs or around the house — yet still showed up for their children, walking from station to station, cheering them on, soaking in the sunshine and the smiles.
As a parent myself, I could see behind the smiles — the tired eyes, the aching feet — but you wouldn’t know it by looking. What shone through was love, commitment, and joy.
And the children… oh, the children. Their eyes sparkled with excitement. Painted faces became unicorns, Batmen, sharks etc They laughed as they bounced, ran, won prizes, and showed off their glitter tattoos.
Here’s to every staff member, every parent, every volunteer who put themselves aside for a moment to create a lasting memory for a child. The children will never know how hot we were, or how tired we felt. But they will remember how magical today was.
And that makes every moment worth it. 💫
